After accepting a job in the DC area after college, I created a website to help me with my roommate search.

To find someone who would be a great fit, I made the website expressive of my personality. I figured that if someone looked at the site, had a good idea of who I was, and still wanted to live with me, we would probably get along well. To make it a bit more fun, the site incorporated several interactive elements, including an "Am I a good fit?" checklist with customized responses, icons which revealed facts about me on hover, and an interactive photo grid. After completing the project, I emailed it to my future coworkers (also upcoming college grads) who would be starting at the same time and posted a link in the Facebook page for my graduating class. I received my first response shortly after publicizing the site and the two of us have been living together for a year now!

I’ll be graduating from Duke this year with a major in Visual & Media Studies and minors in French and Computer Science. Next year I’ll be working as a UX designer at APT. I don’t smoke or use recreational drugs. On the weekends, I spend most of the time at home: reading, cooking, painting, watching movies, learning another language on Duolingo, etc. I rarely drink at home (or otherwise). I don’t have any pets and do not intend to get any, except maybe a fish. I also think it would be fun to have a hedgehog. I am not the most organized of people but also prefer to avoid total disarray. I would prefer to wash dishes or load them into the dishwasher in a timely manner. Right now I generally stay up until 2 or so and wake up around 10, although I imagine this will change when I start working! I’ve been living with my college roommate since sophomore year and we are great pals! I prefer living with someone I’m friends with rather than merely coexisting so I hope we can be friends too!
